What products are made in China (2026 guide)
By George Korn, Founder · Last updated September 8, 2026
China produces about a third of the world’s manufactured goods and exported roughly $3.57 trillion of them in 2024. Electronics, machinery, furniture, textiles, toys, solar panels and batteries lead the list. Since the 2026 tariff wave pushed the effective US rate on most Chinese goods to about 47%, the question is no longer what China makes, but what still lands competitively where you sell.
The main products made in China, by category
Electronics and components
Phones, computers, accessories and the PCBs inside them: electronics is China’s largest export category, anchored by Shenzhen’s component markets and the factory belts of Guangdong. Even goods assembled elsewhere usually carry Chinese boards, screens and batteries. See our electronics and PCB guides.
Machinery, tooling and molds
CNC machining, injection molds and industrial equipment from Dongguan, Ningbo and Suzhou. This is the quiet backbone: whoever builds your mold shapes your product for years. Guides: CNC machining and injection molding.
Furniture
Foshan is the densest furniture manufacturing region on earth: panel, upholstered, metal and office lines at every price point, with mature export logistics. See our Foshan furniture guide.
Textiles, clothing and footwear
From Keqiao fabrics to Guangzhou fast fashion and Wenzhou shoes. Labor-intensive basics are migrating to lower-cost origins; technical fabrics, finishing and speed keep the high ground in China: see sportswear and footwear.
Toys and seasonal goods
Around three quarters of the world’s toys ship from China, concentrated in Shantou (Chenghai) and Dongguan, alongside the Yiwu gift-and-holiday machine. See our toy sourcing guide.
Solar, batteries and the new energy stack
China dominates global solar panel capacity and lithium battery production (CATL, BYD). For anyone building electrified products, the cell supply chain still runs through China. See our solar guide.
Every product guide on this site
Each guide covers the manufacturing cluster, the reference makers (with our Top 12), realistic MOQs and how we run QC in that industry: Electronics, PCB, CNC machining, Injection molding, Furniture, Clothing, Sportswear, Shoes, Bags & luggage, Jewelry, Watches, Toys, LED lighting, Solar panels, Packaging.
Other products made in China
Beyond the categories with dedicated guides, China dominates a long tail buyers reach us about weekly: hardware and hand tools (Yongkang and Danyang), kitchenware and small appliances (Foshan’s Shunde district builds most of the world’s microwaves and air fryers), bicycles and e-bikes (Tianjin and Kunshan), eyewear (Wenzhou and Danyang produce a large share of the world’s frames and lenses), pet supplies, stationery and office goods (Ningbo), ceramics and tableware (Chaozhou), cosmetics packaging (Yuyao), and fitness equipment (Shandong’s Ningjin county). The pattern is always the same: one town, one product, decades of accumulated capability. If your category is not listed, the cluster still exists; ask us which town it is.
Why global brands manufacture in China
Not for cheap labor: Chinese wages passed most of Southeast Asia years ago. Brands stay for the ecosystem: any component within a day, mold shops next to assembly plants, engineers on the factory floor, and ports that turn a container around faster than anywhere else. That density buys speed (sample loops in days, not weeks), scale (the same line that makes 5,000 units makes 500,000), and capability: technical fabrics, precision plastics, electronics that low-cost origins cannot yet match. Vietnam and India win on labor cost and tariffs; China wins whenever the product is complex, fast-moving or component-heavy.
Global brands that manufacture in China
Apple assembles most iPhones in China; Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory is its largest plant; IKEA, Nike, Dyson and virtually every consumer electronics brand keep major Chinese production. The premium supply base is real and battle-tested. The 2026 shift is not brands leaving China wholesale: it is dual-sourcing, with China kept for what only China does well.
What China no longer makes cheaply
Honesty serves buyers better than cheerleading: cotton basics (t-shirts, simple woven garments) usually price better in Bangladesh, India or Vietnam once US duty is counted; volume furniture for the US market has largely moved to Vietnam; simple cut-and-sew and low-tech assembly follow the lowest wage, and that is no longer China. Our group runs desks in Vietnam and India precisely for these categories; the honest comparison lives in our China vs Vietnam vs India guide, and we tell you when the answer is not China.
The 2026 tariff angle
Most Chinese goods now enter the United States at an effective rate around 47% once Section 301 duties stack on the base rates, and the end of the de minimis exemption closed the small-parcel route. The EU applies no comparable wall. Practical consequence: for US-bound cotton basics and hand-made categories the math often favors other origins, while components, technical synthetics and complex assembly remain Chinese by capability. Our group runs desks in Vietnam and India precisely to price both sides of that line; see our approach on the fees page.
“China’s edge in 2026 is depth, not cheapness: the component within an hour, the mold shop next door, the port that never sleeps.”
The cluster map: one city per product
| City / cluster | Specialty |
|---|---|
| Shenzhen | Electronics, PCB, hardware and everything with a battery |
| Foshan | Furniture, ceramics, sanitary ware |
| Yiwu | Small commodities, gifts, seasonal goods |
| Guzhen (Zhongshan) | LED and lighting: the world’s lamp city |
| Chenghai (Shantou) | Toys, from injection-molded to RC |
| Keqiao (Shaoxing) | Fabrics: the world’s largest textile market |
| Yongkang | Hardware, tools, scooters and cups |
| Danyang | Eyewear: most of the world’s lenses |
| Dongguan | Molds, tooling, precision plastics, cables |
| Ningbo | Machining, appliances, and the export port itself |
Sourcing well in China means sourcing in the right cluster: the price, the component ecosystem and the quality benchmarks all live where the industry lives. A quote from outside the cluster is usually a middleman quoting the cluster plus a margin.
FAQ
Is everything still made in China?
No, and it never was. China leads in electronics, machinery, furniture, toys and the new-energy stack; low-cost labor-intensive categories keep migrating to other origins. The right answer is category by category.
What does China not make competitively anymore?
US-bound cotton basics, simple hand-work products and very labor-heavy assembly increasingly price better elsewhere once 2026 duties land. Capability remains; the landed cost does not.
